Updated 17 October 2026. A product page describes the promise. The terms describe parts of the arrangement. Read them together before deciding what the organisation can safely depend on.

Compare the three accounts of the service

Keep the marketing description, contractual terms and demonstrated behaviour in view. A difference between them is a question to resolve, not automatic proof of bad faith. It may reflect a limitation, a different service tier or an overbroad sales claim.

An illustrative buyer might hear that a service is suitable for a sensitive workflow while the proposed terms leave important responsibilities with the customer. That does not settle whether the purchase is appropriate. It means the buyer needs to understand the responsibility and the controls required to carry it.

Ask the supplier to explain material ambiguities in a form the relevant teams can review. Legal specialists assess the agreement. Product and engineering verify the capability. Procurement should avoid translating an unresolved answer into a checked box.

Keep the version and scope of the terms clear. Consumer terms, enterprise terms and negotiated arrangements can differ. A quotation from one should not be presented as a universal statement about every deployment of that vendor’s technology.

The practical next step

Resolve the important mismatch before relying on the service. The objective is an informed decision, not a dramatic screenshot of a clause detached from its context.

Keep the resulting decision, its owner and unresolved questions in a short decision record. For claims about agent behaviour, connect the decision to evaluation evidence rather than relying on a successful demonstration alone.
